César Chávez had many achievements through out his life such as making the first collective bargaining agreement between farm workers and growers in the continental U.S. to be signed in 1966. Chávez also started the first and only performing pension plan for retired farm workers. He became the first person to create a functioning credit union for farm workers. He also eliminated the non productive short-handled hoe that crippled generations of farm workers and extension of state coverage for unemployment, disability and worker's compensation benefits, as well as amnesty rights for immigrants and public assistance for farm workers.
